"Musicologie teachers are outstanding. They meet you where you are, build confidence, and build technical skills. But most importantly it’s fun!"
Lewis Center, OH
Musicologie® is how modern music education should be. Take ukulele lessons in person at our Lewis Center studio or online with an expert Musicologie Lewis Center teacher. All ages and abilities.
With its twee sound and simplicity, the ukulele is an exciting instrument to learn. It's even smaller than the guitar, making it good for little hands. It only has four strings, which means learning chords is a cinch. At Musicologie Lewis Center we have several ukulele teachers, including several guitar teachers who also teach the ukulele.
You can take it with you anywhere. Grab a small, cheap uke and throw it in the back of your car for a road trip. Take it to the beach or a camp ground. Have an impromptu sign-a-long or show off to your friends on your front porch.
As Axis of Awesome proved, if you know a couple chords, you can pretty much play any pop or rock song you can think of. Learn just a few things and you can rock out all night long on the ukulele.
Because the guitar can be challenging for young students, we often recommend the ukulele for young students instead of the guitar. It's smaller and easier to play, so young ukulele players can be successful right away. For those students we'll use a combination of curricula and approaches to keep lessons fun and engaging. For older kids we'll use more traditional curriculum like Alfred's Kid's Ukulele series.
You'd be surprised how many beginning adult students come to us for ukulele lessons: lots! The uke is fun and social, and a great way to get into music. If you're an adult you probably have a specific idea of what you want to achieve. Maybe you want to learn a specific song. Or you might want to prepare for an open mic. If you aren't sure, that's fine too! We'll guide you every step of the way.
If you're an advanced player, you know your problem areas, you know what you need to work on. You need someone who has been there before and can help you get past your plateau. Most intermediate and advanced players who come to us need help with theory and note reading. They might be preparing for an important audition or performance. We've prepared for those same auditions and performances and know exactly how to help.
The first step is to attend your first ukulele lesson. You can sign up online, or contact us at 740-200-0814. You can attend your lesson online over video, or in person at the Lewis Center studio at 8468 Cotter St, Lewis Center, OH 43035. We call the first lesson an assessment. But don't worry - it's not a test! It's a chance for us to get to know you, what your goals are and how best to help you achieve what you want. Plus it's a chance for you to get to know us!
At the studio you'll meet our Community Manager and your teacher who will guide you through process. You'll receive a welcome folder with prices and policies, a practice guide and a practice log. You'll spend about 30 minutes getting set up, learning about Musicologie, talking to you teacher about your goals and playing your ukulele. Your teacher will recommend a curriculum for you, and then, you'll sign up for ongoing voice lessons. You can choose from 30, 45 or 60 minute private lessons. You can also join a band through our RockStars® program. Then, start practicing!

We’ve had a wonderful experience with Musicologie! Both of our students are taking piano lessons, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress they’ve made. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly invested in helping each student build both skill and confidence. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the lessons are always tailored to meet each child’s unique learning style. We’re so grateful for the positive impact Musicologie has had on our children’s musical journey!
Musicologie is a wonderful school! My daughter is very happy with her lessons, her instructor, and the establishment is very nice. We are very pleased with Musicologie!
Mr. Nicholas R. is the best voice teacher a student can ask for. He is absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable and always prepared for the class. He always finds new ways to connect with his students and uses many different vocal techniques and games to help them succeed. Mr.Nick is a super star 🤩 and my daughter absolutely adores him. She has grown so much under his guidance. Mr.Nick really rocks🤘
We have had an amazing experience with Musicologie. Ms. Rita is a awesome teacher & great with kids. We are glad we chose her for my Son's piano lessons. He is always excited for his lessons . Kids are also given opportunities to perform at concerts which is a great platform . Overall would definitely recommend them .
Wes has been an amazing influence on our son , musically and personally. It is hard to find such warm teachers who know their craft and how to interact with kids. And, as they music does help these kids in other ways you don't even anticipate.
My daughter and I started taking piano lessons this year, a life long dream for me. I like that if we cancel in time, the lessons roll over and can be used for any of their classes. I can't believe I'm actually playing the piano!
As an adult, I came to Musicologie with no playing background, just a love of music and a desire to learn. The piano was a perfect instrument to discover the joy of "making" music, and the intricacies of how notes and chords fit together in theory. My teacher (Kay) is the most patient instructor and so attuned to the adult learner's needs. She was always willing to entertain my theory inquiries all the while keeping me on task for moving forward in the practical skills around playing. I looked forward to each lesson with her guiding, stretching, and attending to my growth. I can't say enough, or recommend highly enough Musicologie, and taking the leap with them into learning a new instrument and the gratification music brings the soul.
Because it’s never too late to learn music! I enjoy my “me time” of the week, I can disconnect, have fun and learn something new. Teachers are great and they adapt to all your needs
I have had an amazing journey learning guitar with Jeremy. As an adult I was worried my 30 years of plunking out the same 3 chords would mean that I would struggle. Jeremy listened to what I wanted to achieve, and then helped me to learn and grow at my own speed. He was creative, encouraging, and always pushed just hard enough to help me get over those inevitable humps in muscle memory learning. I give Musicologie my highest recommendation, and encourage you to explore your musical journey. Thane Thompson
I’m an adult learner who hasn’t played piano in years but wanted a hobby and a way to decompress at the end of my work day. Patrick has been amazing! He’s extremely supportive offering me tips on the basics but challenging me. He believes in me more than I do! From toddlers to teenagers to adults, everyone is welcome here! ❤️.Highly recommend.
🎼This is my 2nd time attending a recital for my grandson l. I am so proud of him and the fantastic teaching he is receiving from Musicologie! I highly recommend anyone looking for lessons to enroll as a student or their child as a student. 🎶
Jenna was great! She immediately hit it off with my daughter and they were instant buddies. It was great to see the smile on my kid’s face at the end of the lesson and see the passion flowing out of her through music. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes us. Thank you!

We are driven by a set of unifying principles that guide every lesson, every class, and every interaction.
Research shows the earlier you start, the more lifetime benefits you receive from studying music.
Music is awesome! It teaches so many things: emotional intelligence, discipline, self-awareness, motor skills, dexterity and more.
We focus on the process rather than the product, facilitating discovery rather than dictating information. We teach how to learn, not just what to learn.
We know a student's success is our responsibility. It's our job to make lessons engaging, fun, and easy to be excited about.
All our lessons and classes are experiential and immersive, fun and exciting!
We grow the trust, mutual respect and confidence of our students by assuming good intentions from everyone.
Making mistakes is what learning is. You try something, make mistakes, and try again. We encourage mistakes so our students are excited to take risks and try new things.
Musicologie Lewis Center
We want you to have total confidence that Musicologie Lewis Center is the right place for you or your child to start, or continue your musical journey. So we've collected the most frequently asked questions about our music lessons, our programs, and what it's like learning music at Musicologie.
The Musicologie Method™ is rooted in two things: a safe environment, and education through play. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a safe environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things. Education through play means having fun playing your instrument! That's why it's called playing music! We use games and strategies to help our music students make serious progress while enjoying the process.
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie Lewis Center, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.
Each of our studios may have different prices, so get started here to learn more!
Of course! Here's how it works:
