"Musicologie teachers are outstanding. They meet you where you are, build confidence, and build technical skills. But most importantly it’s fun!"
Grandview, Ohio
Musicologie® is how modern music education should be. Take drum set lessons in person at our Grandview studio or online with an expert Musicologie Grandview teacher. All ages and abilities.
Drums are a fun, active, and engaging instrument. It’s a great instrument for beginners of any age because you can start banging along to your favorite songs immediately. And getting started is easy: you just need a pair of drums sticks and a practice pad. We have drum students as young as three years old, but we offer lessons for beginning adults or advanced players too.
We often suggest drums as a perfect beginning instrument for young students. Don't worry - you can get quiet electronic drums! Drums are fun, exciting, and relatively easy to learn for children. With our tailored curriculum and approach, young drummers can develop their skills and enjoy success from the very beginning. For older kids, we offer more comprehensive instruction, using traditional methods such as Alfred's Drum Method. Whether your child is a beginner or advanced, we are committed to providing engaging and enjoyable drum lessons that cultivate a lifelong love of music.
Drums have become a popular choice among adult beginners seeking music lessons. The drums offer a unique and energetic experience, allowing adults to tap into their musical aspirations. If you're an adult looking to explore the world of drumming, you likely have specific goals in mind. Whether you aspire to learn a particular song, prepare for an open mic performance, or simply explore the instrument without a specific direction, we are here to support you at every stage of your drumming journey. Our experienced instructors will guide you with personalized instruction, ensuring that your drumming experience is fulfilling, enjoyable, and tailored to your individual aspirations and preferences.
If you're an advanced drummer, you're well aware of your specific areas for improvement and what you need to focus on. Overcoming plateaus requires guidance from someone who has experienced similar challenges. Many intermediate and advanced drummers who seek our instruction often require assistance with music theory and note reading. They may be gearing up for crucial auditions or performances that demand a high level of skill and preparation. Rest assured, we have faced those same auditions and performances ourselves and possess the expertise to provide the guidance you need. Our instructors are equipped with the knowledge and experience to help you navigate these hurdles and achieve your musical goals with confidence.
The first step is to attend your first drum set lesson. You can sign up online, or contact us at 614-407-8740. You can attend your lesson online over video, or in person at the Grandview studio at 1400 W 3rd Ave, Columbus, OH 43212. We call the first lesson an assessment. But don't worry - it's not a test! It's a chance for us to get to know you, what your goals are and how best to help you achieve what you want. Plus it's a chance for you to get to know us!
At the studio you'll meet our Community Manager and your teacher who will guide you through process. You'll receive a welcome folder with prices and policies, a practice guide and a practice log. You'll spend about 30 minutes getting set up, learning about Musicologie, talking to you teacher about your goals and playing your drum set. Your teacher will recommend a curriculum for you, and then, you'll sign up for ongoing voice lessons. You can choose from 30, 45 or 60 minute private lessons. You can also join a band through our RockStars® program. Then, start practicing!

My 6yo loved his first lesson- said he wanted to go back immediately to play some more. We’ve done lessons at musicologie with my oldest as well and they are great!
We are absolutely loving the music class for younger kids (up to 5). It's fun and interactive, and they also teach music concepts. I appreciate I can be in the room with my daughter while she's learning too. We're really excited to continue lessons!
I honestly didn't think these lessons would make much of a difference when my boys (14 and 16) started this summer with once a week 30 minute lessons in ukulele and electric guitar, but I am *floored* by the progress they've made! My 14 year old just played for me yesterday and he's doing some kind of wild Spanish guitar thing that sounds like he's straight out of a professional concert or something! They've also been extremely flexible, friendly and easy to work with. Plus the location is cute. I'm definitely going to be returning to Musicologie in Grandview in the future for my younger daughter too!
As an adult, I came to Musicologie with no playing background, just a love of music and a desire to learn. The piano was a perfect instrument to discover the joy of "making" music, and the intricacies of how notes and chords fit together in theory. My teacher (Kay) is the most patient instructor and so attuned to the adult learner's needs. She was always willing to entertain my theory inquiries all the while keeping me on task for moving forward in the practical skills around playing. I looked forward to each lesson with her guiding, stretching, and attending to my growth. I can't say enough, or recommend highly enough Musicologie, and taking the leap with them into learning a new instrument and the gratification music brings the soul.
My daughter has been attending Musicologie for several years now. She’s had a few wonderful coaches for voice, piano, guitar and prep for musical acting. What great experiences she’s had during her time attending lessons. They have so many talented artists and make performing a blast!
A very welcoming and supportive place. The teachers are encouraging and lovely. A variety of class options are available…so far we tried three different kinds. Highly recommend.
My daughter has been singing and taking lessons for years and she was starting to get bored with it when she decided to give Musicologie a try. She fell back in love with music and singing all over again. She absolutely loves her instructor Nicole, and feels like she is challenged in ways she was not before. Definitely the best music school we have ever been a part of!
Patrick was patient with his young curious student. Patrick responded to a lot of questions the student had about the his new environment. Patrick managed to handle all the questions and was still able to provide a productive lesson.
Cassie was great! I was so nervous for my first lesson and she was so kind and knowledgeable! I can’t wait for my next lesson!
We are so happy to be starting lessons here and my children were thrilled with their first experience. They were so accommodating. The owner was such a sweetheart when she worked really hard to make our lesson time work so my son could take violin lessons. There aren't very many places that would do that much for their customers. The place is very clean and the parking is simple. I like the atmosphere and cannot wait to continue here and see what the future holds. Everyone has been so nice.
Thanks to Jeremy's fantastic teaching efforts, this 60 year old was able to learn to play bass well enough to join a band. If he could teach this old dog, imagine the results he has with younger folks.
For years, I have wanted to learn to play piano. I read that Musicologie Noblesville offered lessons for children and adults, so I took the plunge and have enjoyed every minute of it. Lessons are tailored to my needs. You’re never too old learn something new! Melissa A
We’ve had a wonderful experience with Musicologie! Both of our students are taking piano lessons, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress they’ve made. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly invested in helping each student build both skill and confidence. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the lessons are always tailored to meet each child’s unique learning style. We’re so grateful for the positive impact Musicologie has had on our children’s musical journey!

We are driven by a set of unifying principles that guide every lesson, every class, and every interaction.
Research shows the earlier you start, the more lifetime benefits you receive from studying music.
Music is awesome! It teaches so many things: emotional intelligence, discipline, self-awareness, motor skills, dexterity and more.
We focus on the process rather than the product, facilitating discovery rather than dictating information. We teach how to learn, not just what to learn.
We know a student's success is our responsibility. It's our job to make lessons engaging, fun, and easy to be excited about.
All our lessons and classes are experiential and immersive, fun and exciting!
We grow the trust, mutual respect and confidence of our students by assuming good intentions from everyone.
Making mistakes is what learning is. You try something, make mistakes, and try again. We encourage mistakes so our students are excited to take risks and try new things.
Musicologie Grandview
We want you to have total confidence that Musicologie Grandview is the right place for you or your child to start, or continue your musical journey. So we've collected the most frequently asked questions about our music lessons, our programs, and what it's like learning music at Musicologie.
The Musicologie Method™ is rooted in two things: a safe environment, and education through play. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a safe environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things. Education through play means having fun playing your instrument! That's why it's called playing music! We use games and strategies to help our music students make serious progress while enjoying the process.
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie Grandview, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.
Each of our studios may have different prices, so get started here to learn more!
Of course! Here's how it works:
Log into your account at Musicologie.com
Find the lesson you want to change and select 'cancel' or 'reschedule' at least 24 hours before the lesson. Musicologie Junior and Accelerated Labs can be canceled or rescheduled up to 30 minutes before the class.
The canceled lesson will remain in your account to reschedule at any point in the future.
If you withdraw from lessons, you can no longer reschedule any lessons you cancelled.
If you re-enroll, any previously cancelled lessons will still be available in your account.
When you sign up for lessons, your credit card or debit card will be automatically debited a flat fee each month on the 1st of the month. To withdraw, you need to provide us with 30-days notice by filling out a withdrawal form. Contact your teacher for the form.
Musicologie cannot offer refunds for any missed or unused lessons.
