How Group Music Classes Work at Musicologie Grandview
Three to five students work separately at their pianos with headphones, alternating between interacting with the teacher and independent learning. The lab is compatible with any curriculum, preferred method or repertoire. Each student’s progress is completely separate and independent from everyone else. In addition to their regular curriculum books, Lab students work from Musicologie's proprietary Lab curriculum which fills learning gaps and makes drilling scales and technique fun!

Getting Started with Group Music Classes
Ready to enroll in one of our group music classes? Great! The first step is to introduce yourself and help us get to know you. You can do that by filling out our get started form. Make sure you arrive 10 minutes early to your first class to complete registration and payment, buy books, and spend some one-on-one time with your teacher. New students receive a free tote, t-shirt and welcome folder!

I honestly didn't think these lessons would make much of a difference when my boys (14 and 16) started this summer with once a week 30 minute lessons in ukulele and electric guitar, but I am *floored* by the progress they've made! My 14 year old just played for me yesterday and he's doing some kind of wild Spanish guitar thing that sounds like he's straight out of a professional concert or something! They've also been extremely flexible, friendly and easy to work with. Plus the location is cute. I'm definitely going to be returning to Musicologie in Grandview in the future for my younger daughter too!

As an adult, I came to Musicologie with no playing background, just a love of music and a desire to learn. The piano was a perfect instrument to discover the joy of "making" music, and the intricacies of how notes and chords fit together in theory. My teacher (Kay) is the most patient instructor and so attuned to the adult learner's needs. She was always willing to entertain my theory inquiries all the while keeping me on task for moving forward in the practical skills around playing. I looked forward to each lesson with her guiding, stretching, and attending to my growth. I can't say enough, or recommend highly enough Musicologie, and taking the leap with them into learning a new instrument and the gratification music brings the soul.

My daughter has been singing and taking lessons for years and she was starting to get bored with it when she decided to give Musicologie a try. She fell back in love with music and singing all over again. She absolutely loves her instructor Nicole, and feels like she is challenged in ways she was not before. We are so happy to be starting lessons here and my children were thrilled with their first experience. They were so accommodating. The owner was such a sweetheart when she worked really hard to make our lesson time work so my son could take violin lessons. There aren't very many places that would do that much for their customers. The place is very clean and the parking is simple. I like the atmosphere and cannot wait to continue here and see what the future holds. Everyone has been so nice.

What is the Musicologie Method™?
The Musicologie Method™ is rooted in two things: a safe environment, and education through play. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a safe environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things. Education through play means having fun playing your instrument! That's why it's called playing music! We use games and strategies to help our music students make serious progress while enjoying the process.
What ages does Musicologie teach?
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie Grandview, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
How do I sign up for lessons?
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
What's a lesson membership?
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Can I do lessons every other week?
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
What if I start in the middle of the month?
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
How do I withdraw from lessons?
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
What curriculum does Musicologie use?
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Do I need my own instrument?
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
What's an Assessment lesson?
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.

Can I reschedule a lesson if I can't come?
Of course! Here's how it works:
Log into your account at Musicologie.com
Find the lesson you want to change and select 'cancel' or 'reschedule' at least 24 hours before the lesson. Musicologie Junior and Accelerated Labs can be canceled or rescheduled up to 30 minutes before the class.
The canceled lesson will remain in your account to reschedule at any point in the future.
If you withdraw from lessons, you can no longer reschedule any lessons you cancelled.
If you re-enroll, any previously cancelled lessons will still be available in your account.
How do I pay for lessons?
When you sign up for lessons, your credit card or debit card will be automatically debited a flat fee each month on the 1st of the month. To withdraw, you need to provide us with 30-days notice by filling out a withdrawal form. Contact your teacher for the form.
Does Musicologie offer refunds?
Musicologie cannot offer refunds for any missed or unused lessons.
