How Voice Lessons Work
At Musicologie Noblesville, most of what we do is private lessons and voice is one of our main focuses. Your voice is an instrument you carry with you every day. It’s uniquely yours and incredibly personal. From learning to sing karaoke or polishing your classical vocal technique, from young kids beginning to develop their ears and voice and muscles, to advanced singers honing their craft, each voice has its own individual strengths and needs.
How Old Does My Child Need to Be to Take Singing Lessons?
The muscles and work ethic needed for very intensive vocal training don’t develop until age 12 or so, but starting earlier than that can help kids learn the basics of technique and to develop ear training and musical knowledge. Generally 8 or 9 is about right. As always though, if your child is excited about starting lessons, they should start! So for younger aspiring singers ages 5-8, we often do combination lessons with either piano, guitar, or ukulele to jump start their musical education. For very young singers, we have Musicologie Junior.
What About Singing Lessons for Adult Beginners?
Singing is incredible and you should do it! It is NOT the case that you need to be talented. Singing is therapeutic and fun. We love adults who are up for the challenge of discovering how to sing. It’s hard work but incredibly rewarding. And we’ll be there to help you set and achieve your specific goals!
Lessons For Experienced Singers
If you’ve had some training before, you probably have specific goals in mind for your voice. We’ll pair you with one of our advanced vocal coaches. Some have doctorates and decades of experience in classical technique, some have performed nationally with their bands. Some have voice pedagogy or vocal physiology backgrounds. Some have extensive musical theater experience, or have toured professionally as jazz artists. We want to help you get the voice you want with world-class, university level voice training.
Voice Audition Prep
We love to help singers prepare for musical theater, choir, or college entrance auditions. It’s usually best to start at least 3 months ahead of time if you’ve had training in the past, or 6 to 12 months in advance if you’re new to auditioning. We’ll help you find the perfect piece to show off your strengths, develop individualized vocal exercises to address any areas of weakness, and prepare you for the day of the audition with performance guidance, insider audition tips, and tactics for dealing with stress.

Your First Voice Lesson at Musicologie Noblesville
The first step is to attend your first voice lesson. You can sign up online, or contact us at 317-210-1162. You can attend your lesson online over video, or in person at the Noblesville studio at 17021 Clover Road Unit 108, Noblesville, Indiana 46060. We call the first lesson an assessment. But don't worry - it's not a test! It's a chance for us to get to know you, what your goals are and how best to help you achieve what you want. Plus it's a chance for you to get to know us!
Our Studio
At the studio you'll meet our Community Manager and your teacher who will guide you through process. You'll receive a welcome folder with prices and policies, a practice guide and a practice log. You'll spend about 30 minutes getting set up, learning about Musicologie, talking to you teacher about your goals and playing your voice. Your teacher will recommend a curriculum for you, and then, you'll sign up for ongoing voice lessons. You can choose from 30, 45 or 60 minute private lessons. You can also join a band through our RockStars® program. Then, start practicing!

Our family loves coming here! Our son has been coming since he had just turned 3 and has really enjoyed seeing Jo every week. He says Mondays are Jo days and considers Jo his favorite singer🥹. We love how Jo meets kids where they are and pushes them in a kind and encouraging way. In the past year, we have seen kids with varying personality types join our classes and Jo’s patience and ability to make each kid shine is impressive. The age range of our class (Juniors) means it is a bit of organized chaos and a lot of fun.

I can’t say enough great things about Musicologie Noblesville! I absolutely love my violin lessons, and my teacher Rebecca is incredible. Devon has been an incredible drum instructor for my son Caleb! From day one, he has been patient, encouraging, and truly passionate about teaching music. We had such an incredible experience at my daughter‘s first piano lesson. We were warmly greeted by the owner upon arrival and walked through how everything works. Her teacher, Miss Naomi, was so patient and very informative. I was nervous about taking a five year-old (typical age related attention span & listening skills concerns), but they were so patient and well-versed in how to meet her where she was at. They took a very personalized approach to observing her and what would work to pique her interest. We are excited to get signed up for lessons!

My 13 year old son says he really likes both of his instructors. According to him, "it's so casual with Josh (a big compliment from a teen ha) and at Rock Stars with Cade, I get to play other styles of music I wouldn't ordinarily think to choose as well as other instruments". This is so huge for us because it's literally the first activity in his life that we've started him in that he looks forward to as opposed to complaining about going! Musicologie Lakeway is an incredible place! We were lucky enough to meet Nick at their open house and he ended up being the perfect match for my son who had been playing piano for a bit. Besides being an extremely talented musician, Nick is a gifted teacher. My son loves music theory and Nick has imparted so much knowledge on him in just a few short months. I’m so thankful for having an excellent piano and voice teacher Mr Wes, who is also guiding me on the different ways I could play my original songs and how I feel that I’m advancing on my advance piano lessons, I watched the show they had at the mall about 2 months ago and it really motivated me to keep learning all the way. What is the Musicologie Method™?
The Musicologie Method™ is rooted in two things: a safe environment, and education through play. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a safe environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things. Education through play means having fun playing your instrument! That's why it's called playing music! We use games and strategies to help our music students make serious progress while enjoying the process.
What ages does Musicologie teach?
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie Noblesville, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
How do I sign up for lessons?
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
What's a lesson membership?
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Can I do lessons every other week?
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
What if I start in the middle of the month?
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
How do I withdraw from lessons?
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
What curriculum does Musicologie use?
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Do I need my own instrument?
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
What's an Assessment lesson?
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.

Can I reschedule a lesson if I can't come?
Of course! Here's how it works:
Log into your account at Musicologie.com
Find the lesson you want to change and select 'cancel' or 'reschedule' at least 24 hours before the lesson. Musicologie Junior and Accelerated Labs can be canceled or rescheduled up to 30 minutes before the class.
The canceled lesson will remain in your account to reschedule at any point in the future.
If you withdraw from lessons, you can no longer reschedule any lessons you cancelled.
If you re-enroll, any previously cancelled lessons will still be available in your account.
How do I pay for lessons?
When you sign up for lessons, your credit card or debit card will be automatically debited a flat fee each month on the 1st of the month. To withdraw, you need to provide us with 30-days notice by filling out a withdrawal form. Contact your teacher for the form.
Does Musicologie offer refunds?
Musicologie cannot offer refunds for any missed or unused lessons.
