A musical adventure for young children and their grown-ups
Musicologie Junior is a musical adventure for young children and their parents, guardians or caretakers. At each class, we’ll sing songs, move our bodies, dance to different styles of music, read sing-along books, and play lots of musical instruments while your child reinforces her naturally-developing senses of rhythm, melody, rhyme, speech, and movement! We’ll incorporate methods from Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff. Ages 0-5.
At Musicologie we know that music lessons are one of the most impactful investments you can make in your child. Learning music improves coordination, language, reading and math skills. It nurtures our emotional and cognitive health. Studying music literally makes our brains bigger. We designed Musicologie Junior to be a fun and easy way for your little one to interact with others and meet new friends in a stimulating educational environment.

In our classes, everyone participates, from the youngest babies to the “most mature” caregivers–and they all do so in their own way! Some kids might feel shy and start by just observing. Some students are curious, busy, and LOUD! It’s all a part of learning, and it’s all good!
Each class follows a set format with multiple sections, exploring different elements of music making. We repeat certain portions each week to build familiarity and confidence. Some elements are new each time to encourage exploration. Kids of all ages and abilities will learn and grow through joyful music play!
Many people think music ability is something you're either born with or you're not. That's not true! You have to develop talent. You have to learn rhythm. The way to achieve that is to start music exploration early. Kids can learn to be talented musicians, just like they learn to walk and talk.
Of course not everyone is going to be a famous musician, just like not everyone is a great speaker or runner. But we all learn to talk and to run. In the same way, we are all musicians. We just have to tap into it.
Our class does that through an experience and play-based curriculum that introduces kids to a variety of fundamental music concepts and ideas. We touch on solfege, scale patterns, improvisation, movement and rhythm patterns, and even basic note reading. We also reinforce preschool concepts like animals and sounds, body parts, colors, counting, opposites, following directions and sharing.
Yes, our experience for young children is different in a few key ways. First, it's mixed age. Bringing a sixteen month old together with a three year old in the same class benefits both kids. The younger one gets to see good behavior modeled in someone other than an adult, and the older child learns how to nurture, share and participate in educating the others. Other programs don't do this, not because it's not the ideal learning experience, but because it's a challenge to develop the curriculum and teacher training. Musicologie Junior was developed with this multi-age experience in mind with curriculum and teachers to match.
Second, it's hands on with real instruments. Each week has a different musical theme with an instrument to match. Kids get to see and touch and hear these instruments, and participate as they are able. We encourage a sense of exploration and fun with exposure to lots of instruments and music from many cultures and genres.

We have more than 7000 students and hundreds of 5-star reviews! Musicologie students love learning music, enjoy the community and make serious progress.
A very welcoming and supportive place. The teachers are encouraging and lovely. A variety of class options are available…so far we tried three different kinds. Highly recommend.
My 6yo loved his first lesson- said he wanted to go back immediately to play some more. We’ve done lessons at musicologie with my oldest as well and they are great!
My daughter has been singing and taking lessons for years and she was starting to get bored with it when she decided to give Musicologie a try. She fell back in love with music and singing all over again. She absolutely loves her instructor Nicole, and feels like she is challenged in ways she was not before. Definitely the best music school we have ever been a part of!
Patrick was patient with his young curious student. Patrick responded to a lot of questions the student had about the his new environment. Patrick managed to handle all the questions and was still able to provide a productive lesson.
Cassie was great! I was so nervous for my first lesson and she was so kind and knowledgeable! I can’t wait for my next lesson!
We are so happy to be starting lessons here and my children were thrilled with their first experience. They were so accommodating. The owner was such a sweetheart when she worked really hard to make our lesson time work so my son could take violin lessons. There aren't very many places that would do that much for their customers. The place is very clean and the parking is simple. I like the atmosphere and cannot wait to continue here and see what the future holds. Everyone has been so nice.
Thanks to Jeremy's fantastic teaching efforts, this 60 year old was able to learn to play bass well enough to join a band. If he could teach this old dog, imagine the results he has with younger folks.
For years, I have wanted to learn to play piano. I read that Musicologie Noblesville offered lessons for children and adults, so I took the plunge and have enjoyed every minute of it. Lessons are tailored to my needs. You’re never too old learn something new! Melissa A
Mr. Kiffy has been amazing to work with our daughter (10). He is patient, kind, and reinforcing when needed. Highly recommend

We are driven by a set of unifying principles that guide every lesson, every class, and every interaction.
Research shows the earlier you start, the more lifetime benefits you receive from studying music.
Music is awesome! It teaches so many things: emotional intelligence, discipline, self-awareness, motor skills, dexterity and more.
We focus on the process rather than the product, facilitating discovery rather than dictating information. We teach how to learn, not just what to learn.
We know a student's success is our responsibility. It's our job to make lessons engaging, fun, and easy to be excited about.
All our lessons and classes are experiential and immersive, fun and exciting!
We grow the trust, mutual respect and confidence of our students by assuming good intentions from everyone.
Making mistakes is what learning is. You try something, make mistakes, and try again. We encourage mistakes so our students are excited to take risks and try new things.
Musicologie New Canaan
We want you to have total confidence that Musicologie New Canaan is the right place for you or your child to start, or continue your musical journey. So we've collected the most frequently asked questions about our music lessons, our programs, and what it's like learning music at Musicologie.
The Musicologie Method™ is rooted in two things: a safe environment, and education through play. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a safe environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things. Education through play means having fun playing your instrument! That's why it's called playing music! We use games and strategies to help our music students make serious progress while enjoying the process.
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie New Canaan, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.
Each of our studios may have different prices, so get started here to learn more!
Of course! Here's how it works:
