How Drum Lessons Work at Musicologie
Drums are a fun, active, and engaging instrument. It’s a great instrument for beginners of any age because you can start banging along to your favorite songs immediately. And getting started is easy: you just need a pair of drums sticks and a practice pad. We have drum students as young as three years old, but we offer lessons for beginning adults or advanced players too.
Drum Lessons for Kids and Very Young Beginners
We often suggest drums as a perfect beginning instrument for young students. Don't worry - you can get quiet electronic drums! Drums are fun, exciting, and relatively easy to learn for children. With our tailored curriculum and approach, young drummers can develop their skills and enjoy success from the very beginning. For older kids, we offer more comprehensive instruction, using traditional methods such as Alfred's Drum Method. Whether your child is a beginner or advanced, we are committed to providing engaging and enjoyable drum lessons that cultivate a lifelong love of music.
Drum Lessons for Adult Beginners
Drums have become a popular choice among adult beginners seeking music lessons. The drums offer a unique and energetic experience, allowing adults to tap into their musical aspirations. If you're an adult looking to explore the world of drumming, you likely have specific goals in mind. Whether you aspire to learn a particular song, prepare for an open mic performance, or simply explore the instrument without a specific direction, we are here to support you at every stage of your drumming journey. Our experienced instructors will guide you with personalized instruction, ensuring that your drumming experience is fulfilling, enjoyable, and tailored to your individual aspirations and preferences.
Drum Lessons for Advanced Players
If you're an advanced drummer, you're well aware of your specific areas for improvement and what you need to focus on. Overcoming plateaus requires guidance from someone who has experienced similar challenges. Many intermediate and advanced drummers who seek our instruction often require assistance with music theory and note reading. They may be gearing up for crucial auditions or performances that demand a high level of skill and preparation. Rest assured, we have faced those same auditions and performances ourselves and possess the expertise to provide the guidance you need. Our instructors are equipped with the knowledge and experience to help you navigate these hurdles and achieve your musical goals with confidence.

Our daughter Eva takes violin lessons at Musicologie Alpharetta, and we’ve had a wonderful experience! We love seeing her develop her musical skills and grow her passion for music. Musicologie is a welcoming place for young musicians to learn, explore, and build confidence. We’re happy to have Eva be part of their musical community. We highly recommend Musicologie Alpharetta to families looking for a great place for their children to learn an instrument!
My first experience was great ! Love that is for all ages, as I am older but wanted to try something different. I left feeling a bit more confident. Signed up for more lessons.
"I cannot express enough how truly grateful and deeply touched I am by Musicologie Atlanta! As someone who does not speak a single word of English, I was initially very anxious about enrolling my daughter in piano lessons. However, from the very first day, the team and teachers went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome, safe, and understood. They treated my daughter with such warmth, patience, and incredible care. Seeing how happy she is and how well she is being looked after means the world to me as a mother. On top of that, the school itself is wonderfully managed and exceptionally clean. Their kindness, compassion, and heart for their students completely bridged the language barrier. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such an extraordinary and loving school!"
My daughter has had a wonderful experience at Musicologie! The teachers are kind, patient, and very encouraging. They do a great job making music fun while helping kids build their skills and confidence. We really appreciate how welcoming and supportive the environment is. We especially enjoy the Junior class - it’s such a fun and engaging experience for kids! Highly recommend Musicologie to any family looking for a great place for their child to learn music and grow their confidence! 🎶❤️
Really enjoyed my first drum lesson. The instructor John was really patient and great at providing detailed guidance. Looking forward to more sessions.
I had drum lessons with David and it was great! The facilities are new, staff are super friendly! Highly recommend!
I brought my toddler and 9-month-old to the Junior Music class, and we had a great experience. Kelsey was warm, welcoming, and attentive to my children's needs. She seamlessly engaged the class with her positive energy while also adapting to the needs of my overtired toddler. I would highly recommend this class to anyone with children ages 0–5!
Incredible school! Very clean and organized plus an amazing staff. Ownership was very kind and helpful. Would recommend to kids of any age

I’m so thankful for having an excellent piano and voice teacher Mr Wes, who is also guiding me on the different ways I could play my original songs and how I feel that I’m advancing on my advance piano lessons, I watched the show they had at the mall about 2 months ago and it really motivated me to keep learning all the way. I also like the fact that they also teach children, because I’m planning to bring my grandkids so they can learn piano and take voice lessons too. Thank you Musicologuie and thank you teacher Wes, blessings! 🙏👏
Took Saxaphone lessons as a complete beginner with Wes, who’s a great teacher! He did a really great job communicating and planning what I should focus on and got me to the point of playing my first song on the Saxaphone. Looking forward to taking more lessons with Wes!
Every person at Musicologie has been helpful and Professional. I took lessons from Lindsay and recommend her to anyone looking for vocal help. She got right to work on the things I wanted to improve and I did see improvement almost immediately. I plan to go back when my schedule allows.
Wes was great, he jumped right in, gave me some exercises (while providing guidance and instant feedback). I left with exercises and a plan with how we were going to proceed. I gave him my end state on what I wanted to accomplish and he has already provided me with the objectives I will need to accomplish it. I am totally stoked for my next lesson. I absolutely recommend musiclogic and Wes if you are looking to improve both your guitar and singing ability. I will keep you posted on my progress! See you next week Wes!
Musicologie Nashville is a great place! The kids love it and they are learning so much!

Our Philosophy Of Education
We are driven by a set of unifying principles that guide every lesson, every class, and every interaction.
We Start Early
Research shows the earlier you start, the more lifetime benefits you receive from studying music.
We Teach Life Skills
Music is awesome! It teaches so many things: emotional intelligence, discipline, self-awareness, motor skills, dexterity and more.
We Teach the Process of Learning
We focus on the process rather than the product, facilitating discovery rather than dictating information. We teach how to learn, not just what to learn.
Our Responsibility
We know a student's success is our responsibility. It's our job to make lessons engaging, fun, and easy to be excited about.
We Believe in Immersion + Exploration
All our lessons and classes are experiential and immersive, fun and exciting!
We Assume Good Intentions
We grow the trust, mutual respect and confidence of our students by assuming good intentions from everyone.
We Encourage Mistakes
Making mistakes is what learning is. You try something, make mistakes, and try again. We encourage mistakes so our students are excited to take risks and try new things.

Frequently Asked Questions
We want you to have total confidence that Musicologie Canton is the right place for you or your child to start, or continue your musical journey. So we've collected the most frequently asked questions about our music lessons, our programs, and what it's like learning music at Musicologie.
What is the Musicologie Method™?
The Musicologie Method is at the core of every lesson and class we teach. It’s rooted in two things: a safe environment, and student-centered learning. Research tells us these two elements are key components of the way everyone learns, from kids through adults.
In music lessons, a Safe Environment means a place where you feel free to be who you are, encouraged to play the music you enjoy, and excited to try new things.
Student-Centered Learning means harnessing trust, collaboration, and exploration to give students the agency and the inspiration to achieve their goals and to make the learning process engaging and fun.
What ages does Musicologie teach?
We teach all ages. Many of our students are between the ages of 5 and 12, but we teach toddlers and we teach many adults, too! Our toddler music class is called Musicologie Junior and starts at 6 months. Private lessons start at 5. We also have a rock band class called Rockstars where students ages 7+ learn to be rock stars and play at local venues!
We also have member workshops, open mics, and concerts for all our students, including adults! At Musicologie Canton, not only can you learn an instrument from an amazing, friendly, certified teacher, but you can meet other musicians and join a community of music explorers!
How do I sign up for lessons?
Get started here by answering a few questions. We'll match you with a teacher and find a time that works for ongoing lessons. The first lesson is called an assessment lesson.
What's a lesson membership?
A lesson membership is how you sign up for your weekly lesson or class at Musicologie. Your membership fee is billed monthly. The price depends on which lessons or classes you're enrolled in.
Can I do lessons every other week?
Sure, we offer drop-in lessons for students who can't commit to a weekly lesson.
What if I start in the middle of the month?
You will be charged a prorated amount for the remaining days in the month and then you’ll go into our automated system and be billed on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month.
How do I withdraw from lessons?
To withdraw from lessons, you must give 30 days advance notice by filling out our online exit form. This is the only way to withdraw. Contact us for the exit form.
What curriculum does Musicologie use?
We know that you'll stay more engaged by learning music you love and you'll grow faster by using what you've learned in your lessons in performances. We'll take our own Musicologie Method, along with traditional method books like Suzuki, Alfred's, Faber, etc., and combine that with contemporary music you're excited about with the goal of performing in one of our ensembles, group classes, or at one of our concerts.
Do I need my own instrument?
Not for your first lesson. We have instruments at our studios you can use for the first few lessons. But after that you'll want to get your own instrument for practice at home. Your teacher will help you pick out the right one. We also have open practice hours so you can come in and use instruments and practice rooms at Musicologie during the week.
If you do have your own instrument, you should definitely bring it with you, as long as it's easily portable - leave your piano and drums at home
What's an Assessment lesson?
An assessment lesson is what we call your first lesson. Don't worry, it's not a test! You'll come in, meet your teacher, talk about your goals, go through our policies and develop an individual curriculum. Every student does it regardless of age or ability. For very young students, an assessment is also a chance to see if they're ready for private lessons.
What are Musicologie's prices?
Each of our studios may have different prices, so get started here to learn more!
Can I reschedule a lesson if I can't come?
Of course! Here's how it works:
Log into your account at Musicologie.com
Find the lesson you want to change and select 'cancel' or 'reschedule' at least 24 hours before the lesson. Musicologie Junior and Accelerated Labs can be canceled or rescheduled up to 30 minutes before the class.
The canceled lesson will remain in your account to reschedule at any point in the future.
If you withdraw from lessons, you can no longer reschedule any lessons you cancelled.
If you re-enroll, any previously cancelled lessons will still be available in your account.
How do I pay for lessons?
When you sign up for lessons, your credit card or debit card will be automatically debited a flat fee each month on the 1st of the month. To withdraw, you need to provide us with 30-days notice by filling out a withdrawal form. Contact your teacher for the form.
Does Musicologie offer refunds?
Musicologie cannot offer refunds for any missed or unused lessons.
